Brief HistoryFaith In Action is a local ecumenical organisation based in the Wakefield Diocese, West Yorkshire. The organisation sends shipping containers to Tanzania in Africa, filled with donated second hand goods, all clean and in good repair. Since the early 2000’s to 2007, Lindley Methodist Church in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire had the responsibility for the container for Mara Diocese, Tanzania. The container was based in Lindley. Lindley had previously been packing and sending goods to Tanzania via Faith In Action for over 20 years. The goods we send are extremely valuable to the people in Mara. Receiving the gifts is seen as tangible proof or our love and care. Each item is individually packed and carries the greeting in Swahili "We greet you in the name of Christ". There are now around 8 packing teams throughout the country who send goods to the Mara Diocese in Tanzania via Faith In Action Wakefield. There are two packing teams based in the Wakefield Diocese, the one in Lindley and the other at St Thomas - Batley. Around one 20 foot shipping container containing between 500 – 600 apple boxes is now sent every year. It costs around £4,000.00 to send each container (Around £10 a box). Any donations towards the cost would be welcomed and should be sent to Church House, Wakefield, made payable to Wakefield Diocese Board of Finance. Please see the contacts sections for full address details. In 2007 the volunteers from Lindley Methodist church retired from Faith In Action Wakefield, although the packing group will continue. Volunteers from All Souls Church in Boothtown Halifax have taken over the management and administration of the container and Wakefield Diocese has taken responsibility for the finances. Management and finance of the container has been taken over by the Mara Link Committee, Wakefield Diocese. http://www.wakefield.anglican.org/info/overseas/index.htm In August 2007 a new container and site was sourced and the container is now sited in Horbury, Wakefield.
